How Can We Get These Guys Organized?

I'm sure you're tired of telling your children to clean their rooms.
Stacks of papers and clothes everywhere.
I think this problem is as old as time.

What's a parent to do? First of all, provide them with some tools.

Hooks are great.
Put four or five of the large spa type hooks on their bedroom wall.
They are much more likely to put their clothes and towels on a hook than hang them on a hanger or towel bar. It works because it's easier and faster. Next, buy clear men's shoe box sized and small shoe box sized containers with clear lids.
These are great for organizing all the little things that tend to get misplaced like electronics, cords, important papers, memorabilia, photos, boy scout merit badge records, etc.

Teenagers aren't very likely to use file folders so provide an accordion file for projects like college applications, volunteer projects, and other vital records.

Don't get the kind with the flap but the open top.

Teenagers won't use it if the flap keeps flipping over.

It's too frustrating. If all else fails, let them throw their papers into one of the clear shoe boxes you bought.

At least they can see what's inside and it's contained.
Hooks and clear containers are two of the most valuable tools I've found to keep the clutter under control.
I've raised four children so I know what you're going through.

Next time you want to just shut the door and not look in until they leave for college, know you aren't alone.
